 The Lagos State Government this morning warned traders in the habit of displaying their wares on the road for sale beyond the confines of the market thereby causing traffic gridlock and other environmental nuisance to desist henceforth otherwise markets where such illegal activities are perpetrated would be shut down till further notice.  Akinwunmi Ambode, who handed down the warning at a meeting with leaders of Agbado Oke-Odo Market held at Lagos House in Ikeja, said the activities of the traders who are in such habit had reached a level which the State Government could no longer condone, hence the need for a final warning.  The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, said aside causing avoidable and needless traffic, the traders were also in the habit of dumping their refuse on the road, thereby causing environmental and health hazards. The South Gauteng High Court in South Africa has ruled that public schools promote more than one religion in the country. This comes after six public schools were accused by OGod organization of promoting Christianity over other faiths. During the case hearing in Court today,  the organisation for Religious Education and Democracy argues that there’s religious bias in South African public schools. While the Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools and Solidarity, which represents the six schools the case was brought against, says that the Constitution allows public schools to identify with one religion and promote it. They also argued that it's permitted in terms of the constitutional, legal framework and existing case law. Handing down the ruling, Judge Willem van Der Linde ruled that the adoption of a single religion at schools would disadvantage pupils. A 30-year-old British woman spotted “walking naked and drunk in the street” while on holiday in Gran Canaria has been arrested for abandoning her two young children. Police in the Canary Islands say the two youngsters, aged just two and four, were found in an apartment “hungry and dirty”. The mother has not been named. The late-night incident is said to have happened in the popular tourist resort of Mogan in the south-west of Gran Canaria. Witnesses were said to have been shocked when they saw a naked woman walking along the street outside where she was staying “in an obvious state of drunkenness”. A budget Japanese airline has apologised after a man in a wheelchair was forced to drag himself up 17 steps to board a plane. Hideto Kijima, 44, had been able to board an outbound flight with Vanilla Air thanks to the help of friends. But after holidaying in Amami, a small island off the south coast of Japan, staff said company rules barred them from physically carrying him, and that if he could not get on board himself he wouldn’t be allowed to fly. There were no other facilities to help disabled passengers get from the tarmac to the plane door. Mr Kijima, who is paralysed from the waist down, was forced to get out of his wheelchair and physically drag himself up the steps with his arms. Vanilla Air, which is the budget arm of All Nippon Airways, apologised for what happened. A spokesman told AFP: “We’re sorry that we caused him that hardship.” The airline will now make it compulsory to have arrangements for disabled passengers at all airports they use. Police in Los Angeles accidentally shot and killed a 17-year-old boy after unleashing bullets on a charging pit bull the teenager was trying to protect. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the boy, Armando Garcia-Muro, an incoming high school senior died on Thursdayafter being shot in the chest.  The teenager was caught in the gunfire as two sheriff’s deputies opened fire on the attacking animal.  "My nephew was trying to save the dog because the cops started shooting at the dog, he put his life on the line for an animal that wasn't even his"  the teenager’s aunt, Amber Alcantar said. The Benue State Command have arrested two young notorious armed robbers, who disguise in military uniforms and rob victims of their valuables. The suspects identified as one Joseph John, 18 and Innocent Ejembi, 20 are responsible for the frequent robbery attacks in Onyagede District, Ohimini LGA of the state. They were arrested at a robbery scene dressed in Army camouflage uniforms with a dummy gun which they use in carrying out their criminal acts. The suspect will be charged to court. The Lagos state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has signed into law, the state kidnapping prohibition bill, 2016 which prescribes Life Imprisonment or death penalty for the offence of Kidnapping and forceful extortion in Lagos State, meaning that the recently arrested kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans may get a life imprisonment or death penalty sentence . The law provides for death penalty for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody, and life imprisonment for the act of kidnapping. The Lagos State House of Assembly passed the bill on January 5. The governor said that the law was enacted to address key issues bordering on security. Lagos-based kidnap kingpin, Chukwudi Dumeme Onuamadike, a.k.a Evans, has led a team of Policemen from the Federal Anti-kidnapping Unit to what used to be his detention camps for people he abducted. The separate buildings, located in Igando and Ikotun in Lagos, are usually where the kidnap victims are kept for days or months while negotiation for ransom are made. The kidnap kingpin who is now sober, told journalists that his arrest signals the beginning of the end of kidnapping in Nigeria, claiming that his gang applied the best sophistication ever which no gang may be able to equal.
