In 2009 I was running from studio to studio begging for a chance but doors kept closing in my face. I saved my last kobo and recorded Eni Duro. That one song opened the gate I had been knocking on for years.
After the song blew I knew I had to build something for others like me. That’s how YBNL was born. Lil Kesh came with fire in his voice. Adekunle Gold walked in with a guitar and pure heart. Fireboy showed up quiet but full of melody. I looked at them and saw myself years back. I told them stay true keep working and never forget where you started. Watching them shine on big stages feels better than any award I’ve won.
Now people see the Benz and the chains and think the journey was smooth. They don’t know about the tears I hid or the prayers I whispered in the dark. Every no I heard every hungry night pushed me forward. That’s why I tell every young dreamer if a Bariga boy like me could rise you can too. Just hold your hustle tight and never stop moving.
