May we meet you ?

My name is Onyibe Stephen Ikechukwu as known as Solid.

We heard you are one of the first to start comedy in Ibadan ?

Uhmmmm.....not really because I got to do some years after other comedians has celebrated years on stage, so I got to know that some people started before me. But all the same I was part of the 1st set.

How has the journey been so far.... ?

It has been God.

Can you tell us about your background and upbringing ?

Oh! My background.....i wasn't born with a golden spoon, I was born in a family that hustle to survive, my father was a military man. I don't want to dwell too much on it, in a not shell my educational life has been public.

Was it profitable when you started ?

It wasn't at all.

What was people's opinion when they discovered you chose...in their own word "this catastrophic profession".?

They said I wasn't serious.....i don't know what to do, that was why I jumped into comedy. If I may shock you....i didn't say a word, all I did was God speak on my behalf. Whatever you are doing, if people did not see result they won't respect you. Make sure that you have what to show as a result of what you are doing. Today my family can't joke with me even my mother call me Solid. #smile.

Hmmmm what a story there, so in the midst of all this drama, trauma and hustle what would you say kept you going all along ?

I know what am called to do, am so sure am doing the right thing and also seeing a lot of great guys looking up to me alone gives me more courage to move on.

How do you come about the name solid ?

lol......in the year 2000 I joined a group called the Land'lords' in the city of ibadan, so we went for a

missionary trip with some missionaries from America to Kogi state on the 6th June'2001. By getting their it was late at night so we didn't have time to meet one another I mean meeting the Americans. So by morning when we were about going to the mission ground, the leader of the missionaries decided to know us by name. So I was the first person to talk. She said what's your name? I replied by saying Stephen.....she said S' strong, solid, immediately I replied her by saying Solid. So since then that name has been. So it was Oyinbo that named me SOLID (smilling).

What makes you outstanding and prominent among other comedians ?

God grace, Maturity, Creativity, Energetic, Dressing, above all am a GOSPEL comedian and am a minister of comedy.

Who are your role models pls....?

Let me break it very well. Rev Dr. Albert Oduwole is everything to me. I know you will be wondering that

he's not a comedian, you are right; but he does comedy whenever he's preaching. Gordons & Lepacious Bose, they are energetic and Basket mouth , SACO is the first person that challenged my dress sense.

We can see you are a responsible man( married) can you tell us more about your family ?

Yeah! Am married to my best friend also the finest in the universe Mrs Favour Chidinma Onyibe and God has blessed us with a Son (Toluwanimi Blessing Onyibe) that's my pride.

So what do your child says when he sees you performing and what does he tell's his friends that his father's profession is ???

He will say I don't know because my daddy always fools himself on stage and people will be laughing at him. Let me fool myself and pay his school fees #smillinng.

(Laughs) and finally sir you word / advice for the upcoming ones ?

I have a short word to say..... what ever you are good at? Just keep doing it.....consistency is the key to greatness. So keep doing it you will get to your destination.
